Gigi Niekrash

K-12 Tutor

With 13 years of teaching experience, a dedication to fostering a love for learning in students from kindergarten through 12th grade is at the heart of my work. My goal is to help every student reach their full potential, whether it's mastering reading skills or excelling in advanced subjects. Providing personalized support to meet the unique needs of each student is a commitment I take very seriously, ensuring their success in academics and beyond.

I grew up in Madison, Connecticut and after graduating DHHS I played Division 1 field hockey at the University of Maine before earning a teaching certification and a master’s degree at Southern Connecticut State University.

My teaching career has involved teaching a wide range of subjects and grade levels. My experiences include teaching economics and U.S. history at Middletown High School, 5th-grade history at Achievement First, and over ten years with 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders at Carlthorp School in Santa Monica CA. More recently, my work has included teaching 4th-grade math at Charleston Day School and kindergarten at The Country School in my hometown of Madison CT.

Nurturing students' skills in writing, math, reading, and executive functioning has been a primary focus. Lessons are always tailored to each student's unique needs, as building trust is essential for encouraging them to take risks in their learning.

The scope of my tutoring background is diverse, ranging from helping kindergarteners learn to read to guiding eighth graders through the boarding school application process and assisting fifth graders with secondary school entrance assessments. Whatever the challenge, I am here to help!
